Mission News by Joanie Calhoun:

UMCOR Health Kits so far EUMC has assembled and sent 161 Health Kits. We will resume collecting the items in April to take more Kits to Annual Conference in June. The conference has set a goal of 10,000 kits to be donated during the annual church meeting June 17-20 in Denver. So far, UMCOR has collected 350,000 kits and over $12 million for Haiti Relief. UMCOR has projected a five–year plan of recovery in Haiti.

An African Celebration featuring Kenyan food, music, crafts, and a silent auction will be held on March 9 from 7-10 P.M. at the Tivoli Center at Metro State College in Denver. It is a fundraiser sponsored by The Africa Partnership, SAFI, and the African Student Union. The proceeds will benefit educational and medical projects in Kenya, Sierra Leone and Angola. Tickets are $25 and $9 for students. Let’s carpool to this special event. See Jim or Joanie Calhoun for tickets.

Souper Bowl of Caring hosted by our youth collected 52 cans of soup and $5.65 in cash which were donated to the Sister Carmen Food Bank.

On March 21, One Great Hour of Sharing will be observed in United Methodist Churches throughout the world. Donations underwrite the administration of UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief) so that 100% of gifts for relief and reconstruction work can go the specified project.

Growing Home began as a shelter for families with children in 1998. Now Growing Home focuses on housing the homeless, feeding families, caring for children, and wellness in families. EUMC will again this year provide Easter Baskets for some of the children who are in their programs. On March 21 and 28, please bring children’s socks, candy and soft toys to help complete special Easter Baskets for 30 children.
